Virginia Rowe Scheer Allen died peacefully at Parkview Care Center September 6, 2020, at the age of 97 years. She was born in Boonville, Indiana June 5, 1923, the elder of two daughters born to Lelia and Walter F. ("Jack") Scheer.

She and her sister Barbara grew up in the family home built by their grandfather, Simon Taylor. They counted among their forbearers, Ratliff Boon, the second governor of the Indiana Territory and pioneer for whom their town was named. An ardent advocate of education, Virginia graduated from Boonville High School, and continued her education at Bradley University, earned advanced degrees at Indiana University, and continued coursework in museum conservatorship following her retirement from teaching in Warrick County School District. She taught hundreds of children at Culver Elementary in Evansville, Ella Williams, and Tennyson Elementary Schools.

Virginia participated in many high school social clubs and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at Bradley. She continued her civic activities throughout her life as a member of the Boonville chapters of Tri Kappa (Gamma Iota) and the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as the Boonville Women's Club. Working with other civic leaders she helped found the Warrick County Museum in 1977, and served as its first director.

In 1945, Virginia married Richard Eugene ("Dick") Allen (1923–1988), also of Boonville, residing in the family home, while Dick assumed leadership in the family business, Scheer's Electric Hatchery.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Barbara Miller, of Sioux City, Iowa; two children, Mike of Evansville, Indiana, and Barbara of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughters-in-law, Valerie Allen and Nancy Meyers, two grandchildren, Zachary and Zoe; and three great grandchildren, Champayne, Lucian, and Gianna, as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
