Gary P Grant, age 87, of Rhinelander, died on September 18, 2020, at the Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander. Gary was born in Rhinelander on April 22, 1933 to Vernon and Ivy (Olson) Grant. He was a lifelong resident of Rhinelander.

Gary graduated from the Rhinelander High School in 1951. He married Virginia Bowman on January 24, 1953 in Rhinelander and the Lord blessed them with over 67 years of marriage. Shortly after their wedding Gary joined the US Army. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He returned to Rhinelander after his service and went to work for Rhinelander Builders Supply, then Dietz Construction for quite a few years and then for CR Meyer for a number of years. He retired in 1996.

Gary was also a lifelong member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Outside of his family, faith and his work he loved to hunt, fish and golf. He looked forward to the yearly trip to Saskatchewan for waterfowl hunting each year and Deer hunting in Wisconsin. Gary also loved to Polka dance and play the drums, even the Devil’s drum once and awhile. After his retirement he and Virginia enjoyed visiting the kids and grandkids wherever they lived throughout the country. He always knew what each family member was up to and he was proud of all of them.

Gary was proud of his town of Rhinelander, he took great pride in his church, and he loved his family. He often had an opinion about all three and was willing to share it with those he cared about. He wanted to know your opinion and he was always a pleasure to talk with because of that.

Gary is survived by his wife Virginia, his daughter Kathy (Jeff) Fedorchak, his sons Greg (Gail) Grant, Jeff (Bert) Grant and Scott (Karyn Hansen) Grant, his ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, his sisters Barbara Hopkins and Judy (Mick) Phillips, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Kari Grant, his brother Vernon and his daughter in law Rose.

Private family services will be held at this time at the Carlson Funeral Home. Reverend Tammy Barthels will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Forest Home Cemetery in Rhinelander.
