Mary Ann was born September 26th, 1944, in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma.

She was raised in the four corners region of New Mexico with her brother, Milton. Her father passed away when she was in her late teens. She lost her mother in her early thirties.

She attended the University of Oklahoma, later graduating from Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO with a degree in elementary education. She married, taught school, had two sons, Mitch and Jason, and divorced in Farmington, NM.

In 1985, Mary Ann met her soulmate, Jerry Hess in Albuquerque, NM. They married in 1987. Following career opportunities, they lived in many countries over fourteen years including: Philippines (twice), Japan, Hong Kong, China, Russia, Israel and Ireland. Together, Mary Ann and Jerry traveled extensively, each having visited over seventy countries around the world. They settled in Oklahoma to be near her son and grandson, often visiting her other son and eventually his family in Japan.

She worked as a home maker and at times a teacher, including special education. She volunteered for a variety of charities. Mary Ann was active in Golf and Bridge. Throughout her life Mary Ann pursued the Arts and was an expert seamstress and craftsperson. Her heart was in interior design and fashion. She was a dedicated host.

She passed away in Edmond, OK, without suffering at home with her husband Jerry by her side. Mary Ann is survived by her spouse Jerry, her sons Mitch and Jason, their spouses Kristine and Hiroko, and her grandchildren Jacob, Manon & Ace, her brother Milton and his family. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her half-brother Byron and half-sister Jackie.

Public visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Matthews Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 21, 2020 at First Christian Church in Edmond, OK with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
