Richard “Dick” Dwight Holland, Jr., 85, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Dick was the only child of the late Richard Dwight Holland, Sr., and Lucy Hanbury Holland of Chesapeake (South Norfolk), Virginia. He was the devoted husband of the late Rivers Bray Holland for 61 years. Dick graduated from South Norfolk High School in 1953 and attended University of Virginia, Richmond, VA Campus. After 36 years of service with Bank of America (formerly Virginia National Bank and Sovran Bank) he retired in 1997. Dick and his wife Rivers, then moved from his last bank post in Charlotte, NC to their beloved Outer Banks as full-time residents.

Dick is survived by daughters, Danita H. Pitts and husband Ron of Garner, NC and Jenny H. Williams and husband Bobby of Kill Devil Hills, NC; seven grandchildren, Carie Anne Crumpler, Leigh Bracy Brinkley (Kevin), Avery Ruth Williams and Robbie Williams, all local residents; Holly Rivers Carter (Hunter) of Virginia Beach, VA. and Byron Pitts and Erin Poyner of Clayton, NC; five great grandchildren, Stephen Fleet Carter of Virginia Beach, VA; Bryce, Blake and Brandon Poyner and Makenna Pitts all of Clayton, NC.

Dick was a member of Kitty Hawk Baptist Church, Kitty Hawk, NC, serving in many capacities over the years, most notably as Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board for several years. He was an avid sailor and an accomplished equestrian. Dick was also a member of the Civitan Club in Chesapeake, VA and served as President 1979-1980 and a member of the South Norfolk Mason Lodge No. 339 in Chesapeake, VA.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff of Spring Arbor, Kill Devil Hills and Albemarle Home Health and Hospice for the love, kindness and professional care shown to Dick during his illness.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, September 18, 2020 at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church, 3946 N Croatan Hwy, Kitty Hawk, NC with Pastor Steve Siegrist officiating.
