Miss Lucinda Brown was born October 26, 1856 and died in the home of her grand daughter, Mrs. Grace Clark, one mile south of town, May 9th, 1931, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 16 days. Her childhood home was in Wisconsin and Iowa. She was married to Mr. E. S. Newell, in 1875, and to this union was born four children, the oldest, Lewis B. Newell, who resides at Smith Center, Kansas; the second child, Lulu, died in 1912; the third, Frank B. Newell lives north of Agra; and the fourth child, Mrs. Mary Wilson lives at Cornie, Nebr. Mrs. E. S. Newell made her confession of faith in Christ, as her personal Savior, and
was baptized about 25 years ago. She held her membership with the Church of Christ, and her faith was evidenced by a few lines, written by her own hand, some day not long ago when she was making all plans, and giving directions for the conduction of her funeral, an extract from her letter of instructions-: "Came to Kansas in 1884, and had four children, three living, to mourn the death of their kind and loving mother, who has gone to meet her loving daughter at the golden gate to part no more." This daughter refered to, was Lulu, who preceeded her mother to that faraway home of the blessed, some years ago. The Christian's death, is not like the evening star sinking into the darkness of the night, but it is to the True Christian, like the Morning Start, soon lost to the vision, in the brightness of God's eternal day.
Three living children, 25 grandchildren, and a host of loving friends mourn the passing of Grandmother Newell.
Funeral services
were held, Sunday, May 10, 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Church at Agra, with Rev. A. C. Edwards officiating.
