April 11, 1942 ~ September 16, 2020 (age 78)

Mr. Carol Gene Padgett, 78, of Ruffin, entered into rest Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Born April 11, 1942 in Smoaks, he was a son of the late Sammie Kermit Padgett, Sr. and Carolyn Carter Padgett. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he had worked as a pipe fitter. He was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Walterboro. He also enjoyed restoring old trucks and his corvette. He dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who called him “Pappy”.



Surviving are: his wife, Barbara Hicks Padgett of Ruffin; daughters, Ann Padgett Simmons and her husband Wayne of Hampton and Christie Padgett Carter and her husband Jay of Johns Island; grandchildren, Laura Syfrett Wolcott and her husband Caleb, Erin Simmons Berry and her husband Jeff, Trey Carter and his wife Lindsey, Brandon Carter, Nicholas Carter, and Evan Simmons; great grandchildren, Abigail Carter, Riley Berry, and Raymond Berry; brothers, S.K. Padgett and his wife Betty of Hudson Mill and Dale Padgett and his wife Dianne of Walterboro; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Lynn Padgett; sisters, Cheryl DuBois and Artis Linder; and brothers, Marshall Padgett and Charles Padgett.



Funeral services will be held 4 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, September 19, 2020 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow in the Tabernacle Cemetery, Smoaks.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2: 30 until the hour of service at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro.
