Daughter of Richard Hightower and Nancy L. Smith. Wife of Oliver Bliss Hayes. Married Feb 3, 1812 in Williamson County Tennessee.

Sarah's middle name is often found as Clemmons which is probably correct. By all accounts, her grandmother was Sarah Y. Clemmons Smith and Sarah was her namesake.

In addition to their children linked below, a transcription of the Richard Hightower Cemetery, done about 1973, gives the names of three other children of Sarah and Oliver.
They were:
Corinna (May 1819 - 1821 or 1824)
Oliver Bliss Jr. (Dec. 20, 1821 - June 25, 1824)
Aureli (or Aurelia) (Sep. 5, 1835 - Oct 25, 1850)

This transcription, and the book "The Kith and Kin of Capt. James Leeper and Susan Drake His Wife" (pub.1946) are the only known sources that gives these three names. There are other sources that should - yet don't. The markers, from which the names and dates of the three were likely taken, are probably in the single stack of broken slabs and stones in the Hightower Cemetery in Williamson County TN.

Note: Williamson County was established in 1799. When Sarah was born in 1795, this county was still a part of Davidson County TN.

Contributor note: Sarah was my 3rd great grandmother.
