Guy Weldon Weeks, 75, passed away Friday September 14, 2007 at an Abilene hospital.

A celebration honoring his life will be held, Tuesday September 18, at 2:00 PM at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St., officiated by Bill Dickson. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home.

Guy was born January 3, 1932 to Luther and Ruby (Kelly) Weeks in Ft. Worth, Texas. The family lived in Arlington and Wichita Falls, later moving to the Weeks homestead north of Abilene in 1939.

Guy began his horsemanship career at an early age, competing in junior roping and calf riding events. As a race rider in his teen years he became Outstanding Jockey in the Southwest. He rode in amateur rodeos and joined the Rodeo Cowboys Association professional ranks at age 17, in January 1949 at Denver, Colorado. His unique ability to rope and ride rough stock lead to many individual championships nationwide and he was in the all around top ten for ten out of eleven years. He became Saddle Bronc World Champion in 1963. Guy was a model cowboy in stature and ability, and was one of the most popular and well liked cowboys on the circuit.

He married Jo Martin in 1950 in Abilene, and they were blessed with three children; Jacquetta, Debbie, and Guy Jr. all of Abilene. They had three granddaughters; Kelly Peterson of Dallas, Randa and Laci Weeks of Aspermont; grandsons Dustin Douglass (Christy) of Killeen, and Sy Douglass (Shauna) of San Antonio; two great grandsons, Cooper and Cole Douglass, and two step- grandsons, Caleb and Seth Dean; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, sister LaNell Weeks, brother L. E. Weeks, Jr., granddaughter Laci Weeks, and grandson Danah Guy Douglass.

Visitation will be Monday, September 17, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
