May 28, 1948 - September 15, 2020

Carol Ann Coleman, beloved aunt, sister, daughter and friend, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from complications due to COVID-19. She was surrounded by family and covered in prayer.

Carol, also known as “Tapple,” was born May 28, 1948 to Warren Z. and Nelwyn Campbell Coleman at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, near Shreveport. A lifelong resident of Shreveport, she graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1967.

Carol adored her extended family, and throughout her life, visiting with family was one of her very favorite activities. She also enjoyed and excelled at crafts, including making potholders and jewelry. Jigsaw puzzles were another favorite activity. She and her sister, Judy, frequently competed to see who could work a jigsaw puzzle faster. Though she was developmentally disabled in this life, Carol was an enormous blessing and an endless source of humor to everyone who knew her. She was kind, empathetic, determined and resilient. All animals loved her, and she cared for the family pets, including several rescued animals, expertly. Every single person who ever met her is better for the experience. She is one of the few people who can truly say she left this world and the people in it better than she found it.

Carol is survived by her sister, Judy Phelan, and brother-in-law, Mike; niece, Kelly Phelan Powell, her husband, Blake, and their children, Harper and Truman; nephew, Chuck Phelan, and his partner, Michele Drucker; nephew, Mike Phelan, and his wife, Lisa; as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family is planning an online celebration of life for Carol and will inform family and friends of details as they emerge. A private burial will take place September 18, 2020.
