He was born in Madison, the son of the late Chester Smith Hibbard and Elizabeth Viola Hodgdon Hibbard. He attended Madison schools and had been a resident of Madison for most of his life. He moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., in 1995 with a very special friend, Evelyn Spencer. He was a great father and the best friend anyone could have.
He was a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II, and a member of the Madison Fire Department for 32 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Madison, the Indian Spring Order of Odd Fellows 115 of Madison, the Tardiff-Belanger Post 39 American Legion of Madison and the Eagles Club of Skowhegan.
He had worked for the town of Madison Road Department, Madison Paper Ind., Medway Shoe Shop, the Norridgewock Esso station and the Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by a daughter, Lenora A. Stone, and her husband, Raymond, of Sabattus; two sons, Charles Hibbard of Troy and Dana Hibbard, and his wife, Brenda, of Madison; a sister, Eunice L. Brack of Anson; a very special friend, Evelyn Spencer of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his former wife and long time friends, Kathryn Dyer Kennedy, and her husband, Russell; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many sisters-in-law; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father and mother; a son, Frederick Hibbard; a daughter, Donna Hibbard; a great-grandchild, Joshua K. Moore; four brothers, James E., Kenneth M., George A. and William F. Hibbard; and three sisters, Edith A. Smith, Frances A. St Peter and Fredonna M. Johnson.

HIBBARD - John W., 84, died Sept 13. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept 18, at the funeral home with the Rev. Margo Carmines officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison.
