WAPAKONETA - Robert E. "Bob" Wilges, 88, of Wapakoneta, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at 10:15 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Cridersville, the son of the late Herman and Emma (Bishop) Wilges. On June 15, 1946, he married Vandora Bell and she died Dec. 18, 2000.

Survivors include two sons, David G. (Barb) Stiles and Daniel G. (Deb) Wilges, both of Wapakoneta; two grandsons, Scott (Terri) Stiles of Wichita, Kan. and Daren (Ann) Stiles of Wapakoneta; one granddaughter, Becky Stiles of Buhler, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Zach Stiles and Maddi and Mara Stiles; and a special friend, Georgia Lee of Wapakoneta. He is also survived by three brothers, Dean Wilges of Dayton, Richard Wilges and Paul (Marilyn) Wilges, both of Wapakoneta; and a sister, Donna Richardson of Wapakoneta.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Jr. and Charles Wilges; and a sister, Lucille Bitler.

Mr. Wilges retired in 1980 from the Wapakoneta Machine Company. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in North Africa, Tunisia and Italy during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foriegn Wars Post No. 8445 and the Senior Citizens, all of Wapakoneta.
He was also a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 691, Wapakoneta. His hobbies included antique cars, building and flying model airplanes, riding motorcycles and woodworking. He was active with the Lima Beagle Club and enjoyed raising beagles.

Burial will be in the Buckland Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta VFW.
