He left teaching and went into Sales, and was well known and liked by his customers at Marvin’s and R&R Hardware. He worked at the Opportunity Center and then Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, finding jobs for disabled individuals. He was loved by his coworkers and always had a quick smile and a joke to tell. He had retired from ADRS in July of this year.

He is survived by two brothers, Ellis Hughes (Pat), of Harlem, Georgia, Lee Roberts (Jodie) of Anniston, and two sisters, Joy Clark (Abe) of Anniston and Tammy Jennings (Doug) of Hokes Bluff. He is also survived by nephews Paul Hughes (Georgia) and Joel Hughes of Harlem, Georgia, and Kim Cooper and Jasmine Hagan (Aaron) of Anniston, as well as several great nieces and nephews including Michael Cooper, who he loved like a son.
