Due to her disability at birth, Lena was shipped off to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she received her education at State South Carolina School For The Death And The Blind. Being there, Lena learned braille and sign language. After graduating, she became employed for the South Carolina Commission Of The Blind in Columbia, South Carolina as an aide teaching braille and assisting anyway she could.
Lena grew up in a strict church environment. The teaching and love for Jesus Christ continued as she got older. This lead to Lena receiving Christ in her 20's becoming a member of the Saint Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, which was under the leadership of Reverend Harris at the time.
Over the years, she met Harry "Cigar" Milligan. This encounter blossom to a 40-year union of friendship, loyalty, love for each other, but most importantly, they shared a bond for Jesus Christ.
