Born on January 7, 1937, in Weirton, Robert was the second of six children born to William M. and Evelyn Motley Byrd.
Robert grew up in Weirton and graduated from Dunbar High School. A veteran of the United States Navy Reserves, Robert provided for his family by working for Weirton Steel. He retired as a millwright after many years of dedicated service.
He nourished his faith at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Weirton, where he was a faithful and dependable member. He enjoyed working on various projects at church and fixing anything that needed repaired.
Robert loved the outdoors, enjoyed golfing, watching NCAA basketball, following his beloved Steelers, and most of all spending time with his family.
All who knew Robert will remember his loyalty, dedication, and his desire to help others in need.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Curtis Byrd, sister, Wilma Byrd, and brother, David L. Byrd, Sr.
He will be remembered with love by his daughter Leslie (John) Morris of Marietta, GA; brother, Anthony (Michelle) Byrd of Dayton, Ohio; sisters Felicia Byrd, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kathryn Parrish of Mankato, Minnesota; granddaughter Kiersten (Peter) Richmond; great granddaughter and great grandson Ava and Elias Richmond of Woodstock, GA. Robert was loved and admired by a host a nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-law, along with a host of special friends.
Friends will be received Thursday, January 6, 2021, at 11 am, followed by a 12 pm funeral service at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 309 Kessel Street, Weirton, WV.; Reverend Rudy McAllister will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
