Earl Lewis, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on September 15th.
Earl was born on March 27 1938, to Carl and Gladys Lewis in Carthage Missouri. He graduated from Alba High School in 1956 and attended Midwest Bible College in Stanberry Missouri. He married Wanda Daugherty on June 9 1961. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, US Navy and Naval Reserves, including four years Active Duty, serving as an Aviation Electrician's Mate (Squadron VA-95) aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger. He was a retired minister of the Church of God (7th Day) serving for 35 years. He served his community of Neck City as a member of the Board of Alderman for approximately 30 years, including several terms as Mayor Pro Tem.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: William Paul Lewis, Betty Mapes-Cole, and Herbert George Lewis; three fathers-in-law: Bert Daugherty, Glenn Dodson and Frank Carlisle; son-in-law, Tim Gill and daughter-in-law, Laura Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanda, and their three children: Paul (Tressa) Lewis, Deborah (Tobey) Simpson, and Lisa (Les) Sapp; mother-in-law, Millie Dodson-Carlisle; brother-in-law, Charlie Cole; sister-in-law, Pat West; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a niece, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family and innumerable acquaintances.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday at 10:00 a.m. "Earl's Coffee Bar and Fellowship" will be open in the church basement for fellowship and visitation prior to his Celebration of Life service, which follows at 11:00 a.m. All events will be at the Church of God (7th Day), 2225 N. St. Charles in Joplin. Please come prepared to share your stories or memories during his Life Celebration service. The Life Celebration Service will be broadcast live on YouTube channel; church7net.
Pallbearers are: Josiah Lewis, Tobey Simpson Jr, Wyatt Earl Gill, Kyle Lee Friend, Mike Lewis and Jerry Welch.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SEED Ministries, PO Box 10, Neck City MO 64849. Earl served as Director of SEED since its inception 45 years ago until his passing.
Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
