Michael William "Mike" Wolfe
November 25, 1953 ~ September 7, 2020

Michael “Mike” William Wolfe, forever to be known as Papa, lost his fight with Covid-19 on September 7, 2020 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. Michael was born on November 25, 1953 to Henry Duane Wolfe and Leota Jean (Bales) Wolfe in Des Moines, Iowa. He was followed by his brother, Richard and his sisters: LeeAnn and Debbie.

Growing up, Mike attended Capital Heights United Methodist Church and his faith remained important to him throughout his life. Mike graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1972. He enlisted in the Army in the fall of 1972. He served as a Military Policeman, first doing prisoner transports from Vietnam and later in Germany as a liaison with the German Police. He received an honorable discharge in January of 1977.

After his return to civilian life, Mike spent many years as a truck driver. He was very proud of his record of 2,000,000 miles accident free. After a career ending injury, Mike attended Indian Hills Community College, where he received his Associates Degree. He began working as a Corrections Officer at the South Iowa Juvenile Detention Agency where he enjoyed working with the youth. When the detention center closed, Mike retired. In his retirement, he began transporting people from the local Amish communities.

Mike was joined in marriage to Betty Lou Boggs on December 10, 1986. Her children, Brian and Catheryn, were followed by Michael, William, and Sarah. Mike was joined in marriage to Sondra Renee Perkins on October 10, 2002. They blended their families and raised Mike, Billy, Sarah, Amanda, and Eric in Corydon, Iowa. Mike and Sondra later moved to their little farm west of Allerton, Iowa. Mike enjoyed caring for his yard and garden, his orchard, and various animals. His greatest love in life was his family and especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

Mike was active in the local community. He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts. He was an active member of the American Legion, first in Corydon and later in Allerton. His most beloved activity was playing Santa. He loved the children and really enjoyed seeing the second generation of families visiting him.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sondra Wolfe; sons: Michael (Lisa) Wolfe, William (Renee) Wolfe and Eric Carlson; daughters: Sarah (Mark) Beck, Amanda (Adam) Snow, and Cathy (Rodney) McDonald; brother, Richard (Maureen) Wolfe; sisters: LeeAnn (Marty) Martin and Debbie Kile. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sharon Perkins; brothers-in-law: Mike (Malinda) Perkins and Alan (Kim) Perkins; sisters-in-law: Susan (Wade) Duley and Stacy Henry, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
