Catherine, the daughter of William and Christena (Gibson) Smith, was born on February 4, 1933, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1951.
Catherine married Wayne H. Tinnermeier on September 20, 1953, at St. John's Church in rural Newton.
Catherine was a homemaker for many years and later worked as the secretary for Baxter Farm Service for 19 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chat-A-Bit Club, the North Neighborhood Club, and multiple card clubs. She enjoyed doing water aerobics at the YMCA and volunteering at the Jasper County Museum. Catherine liked playing cards, doing word searches and Sudoku, and reading books. She also loved spending time on Facebook and commenting on people's posts.
Catherine is survived by her children, Debra (Tim) Chance of Newton and Scott (Julie) Tinnermeier of Galion, Ohio; grandchildren, Melissa (Darin) Kramer, Matthew (KayLea) Marchant, and Luke Tinnermeier; great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Boulicault of Newton, Jean Tinnermeier of Fort Collins, Colorado, and CeCe Smith of North Tonawanda, New York; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; son, Steven Wayne Tinnermeier; three sisters, Doris Versteegh, Margaret Hevlin, and Sally Smith; two brothers, Edward Smith and Tom Smith; nieces, Linda Franklin and Barb Ealey; and nephew, David Versteegh.
