Dolores “Cookie” Mitchell (nee Hancharick), age 87, of Morton, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on September 10, 2020 surrounded by her family.

She was born to the late Martin and Helen Hancharick on August 15, 1933 in Philadelphia. Cookie graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart a few years later while he was serving in Korea.

Cookie married George in 1953 and they enjoyed almost 50 years together before George passed away. They raised their three children; George, Jr. (Christine), Denise (the late David Patton) and Susan (Dan McArdle) in Upper Darby.

She is survived by her 8 grandchildren, Christine (Andrew), Jill (Robb), Shannon (Colin), Jacqueline (Kiel), Nancy (Josh), Danny, Brian (Tara) and Lindsay (Jamie); as well as her 12 great-grandchildren, Tyler (Sierra), Aidan, Olivia, Allison, Julia, Payton, Lillian, Wyatt, William, Norah, Neeve and Callie.

“Dee” worked for many years as a secretary for the Upper Darby School District before retiring, in various locations; Beverly Hills Middle School, Upper Darby High School and the Transportation Department in the Bus Depot.

Cookie’s family and friends were always her greatest joys. She enjoyed playing cards weekly and going on frequent casino trips with her dear friends of more than half a century, Margie, Ann, Mary Ann and Tootsie. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and the Laurentians group. Whether it was a bus trip to see a show or an extended vacation to Hawaii or a cruise, Cookie and George always had a great time with their friends. Her favorite trips were to spend time with her children and grandchildren who lived out of state, in Georgia and Nevada.

Cookie always had a love for the beach and the ocean. The family has enjoyed over forty years as seasonal residents at the Ponderosa Campground at the trailer lovingly referred to as “Cookie’s Hideaway”. Whether it was going to the beach, sitting at the campfire, enjoying steamed crabs at the trailer or dining at the deck of the Lobster House, Cookie was in her happy place. She will be missed dearly every day, but her memory will live on every time we do one of her favorite things ‘on the way to Cape May’.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visit the family Wednesday, September 16, 2020 8:30-10:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at St. Laurence Lower Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
