Thomas Le Sueur was Joan Crawford's biological father. They were estranged however her entire life. Joan met him but once according to most accounts in the early to mid 1930s at MGM. Though Joan paid for his burial in Texas in 1938 she did not attend his funeral.The headstone was erected in 1982 by local donations in Abilene, Texas where Thomas Le Sueur had worked as a plasterer.Thomas E. Thomas E. (not L.) LeSueur (top), son of James Howell LeSueur and Permelia D. "Amelia" James, TN and husband of Anna Bell Johnson and parents of Joan Crawford aka Lucille Fay LeSueur, San Antonio, TX. Betty Johnson (on his left), daughter of Sylvester and Mary Ellen Johnson and sister of Anna Bell Johnson LeSueur. Anna Bell Johnson LeSueur, holding her son Hal Hays LeSueur and her mother, Mary Ellen Johnson, holding her daughter, Daisy LeSueur and her father (on her left), Sylvester Johnson of TX. Photo was taken before Joan Crawford aka Lucille Fay LeSueur was born.

This family group picture appears in the book, "A Portrait of Joan, The Autobiography of Joan Crawford," With Jane Kesner Ardmore, 1962.
