Funeral services for George Mitchell Millard will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 17 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating and eulogy by Dale Newkirk. Burial, Woodfin Cemetery, Foster, Missouri. Visitation, 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday at the Schowengerdt Chapel, Butler. George Mitchell Millard, age 74, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. He was born August 2, 1933 in Worland, Missouri to James Harvey Millard Sr. and Montcella May Henson Millard. He was the fourth of eight children.

George attended rural Missouri and Kansas schools in Bates and Linn Counties. He was a member of the Worland Baptist Church. On July 4, 1952 George was united in marriage to Helen Louise Ewbank of Amoret, Missouri. They raised two daughters, Vickie Millard Popplewell and Linda Millard Martin in the Amoret community.

George was a tool and die maker by trade. He received his training through "on the job" programs during his early work years. In 1976, George opened his own business named Millard's Tooling and Grinding in rural Bates County.

George was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, LaBerta Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen of the home and his two daughters and their families, Vickie Popplewell and husband Pat of Butler, Missouri and Linda Martin and husband Douglas of LaCygne, Kansas.

George has 4 grandchildren and 14 grandchildren. They are grandson Douglas Martin and wife Michele and their daughters Georgia, Madison, Alexandria and Abigail Martin of Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughter Valerie Popplewell Newkirk and her husband Clayton and their children Tiffany, Andrew and Victoria Newkirk of Butler, Missouri; grandson Jeremy Martin and his wife Katie and their children Makayla, Jesika, Joshua and Sydney Martin of Paola, Kansas; and grandson Patrick Popplewell and his wife Michelle and their children Brooklyn, Brianne and Peyton Popplewell of Butler, Missouri.

George is also survived by his brothers James Millard of Pleasanton, Kansas and Delbert Millard of Ft. Scott, Kansas and his sisters Mary Wurtz of Independence, Missouri, Bonnie Studdard of Louisburg, Kansas, Delma Brooks of Belton, Missouri and Eva Burch of Kansas City, Missouri.
