Davenport - Services for Verdine Albert Ede, 81, Davenport, will be 10am Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm today, at Halligan - McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport, where a rosary will be recited at 5pm.
Mr. Ede died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Davenport.

he was a foreman and truck driver at various lumber companies in Davenport, including the former Northwest Lumbr Company and Seifer Lumber Company. He retired in 1975.
After that he worked in security at Blackhawk Hotel during its renovation period and Scott County Courthouse for several years.
At the same times, he and his wife, Mary Ann, purchased the former Blue Devil Diner and operated it under the name, Ede's Grill.

He married Cornelia Meyer in 1931, in Davenport. She died in 1975.
He married Mary Ann Pfeifer-Donegan in 1978 in Davenport.

During World War II, he worked at Rock Island Arsenal. He was a life member of International Order of Odd Fellows and was former grand master and treasurer. He had volunteer many hours to IOOF. He also was associated with Teamsters and Chauffeurs Local 371 and a member of the church.
Memorial ma be made to Worldwide Church of God and Center For Aging Services Inc., Davenport.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Bob) Urmie, of Stockton Iowa; sons Verdine C "Vern" and Frank G., both of Davenport; and Albert E., of Bettendorf. 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, J.L. "jack" Meyer, Sept 25.
