On September 10, 2020, Charlene (Charlie) Perry finally won her battle on Earth and found peace.
Charlene was born to Linney and Mary (Sikora) Perry on July 31, 1938. Much to everyone's surprise, she welcomed 82 years around the sun. She grew up in the Monarch, WY /Acme, WY area, but spent a lot of time with her grandparents at the Decker, MT area homestead.
She lived a tough lifestyle, that most people living life the way she did, would never see that many trips around the sun! Charlene was one tough cookie: she survived a stroke in early 2000, which she fully recovered from. She moved to the family homestead in the late 60's or early 70's and lived off grid into late 1900's to early 2000's. She lived a private life enjoyed with her dogs (Border Collie, Peggy Sue) and cats and many ranch animals, including her horse Reno: she took great pride in the leopard appy that was born on the family homestead to her prized mare, Kelly. She also took great pride in her cows. She started with a few dairy cross cows and bred them up to be a fine herd of red angus. Each cow had a name that she owned and bred: she could tell you who was who from far off at a glance.
Charlene was an accomplished artist and gifted family and friends with pieces of her work. She would always draw a little caricature on cards she sent out with a fun little message about the drawing. She was also gifted with the power of written word. She contributed many articles in the opinion page of The Sheridan Press and always put her point of view into perspective. She authored a book that unfortunately was never published, but in it she shared a lot of local history. Someday it may actually see press and can be enjoyed by more than just family.
Charlene will always be known for her pioneer spirit and ability to accept simplicity as perfection. She was a no-nonsense gal and was proud of the fact she made it on her own. She had people in her corner we want to thank who helped her out when the chips were down. It was because of those friends she was able to make those trips around the sun. So, to all those folks who so graciously stepped in when she needed a hand during tough times, a huge thank you from her family!
Charlene was preceded in death by her father Linney Perry, mother, Mary M. Perry, grandmother and grandfather, Agnes and Paul Sikora, nephew Travis Ross and numerous aunts of uncles. Charlene is survived by a sister Juanita Ross of Billings, MT, a brother Paul Perry (Connie) of Sheridan, nieces and nephews, Amy Perry-Gustafson (Heath), SD, Kim Perry, AK, Cody Ross (Anjuli), Billings, MT, and a considerable number of great nieces and nephews.
Private services will be conducted at this time and will be followed by a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dog and Cat Shelter in Sheridan, Second Chance Rescue also in Sheridan or Ducks Unlimited (on line or 1-800-453-8257) in honor of Minnie, an injured wild duck she adopted.
