Maurice J. (Bob) Madden III, age 72 of Newark, DE, formerly a longtime resident of Woodstown, passed away at home Thursday, November 16, 2006.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Maurice J. Jr. & Margaret (nee Craft) Madden.
Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956, Mr. Madden served as an Army medic in post-war Korea. After returning from services, he worked as an elementary school teacher in Stanton, DE while completing his Masters Degree in school administration from the University of Delaware. Moving to Salem County, NJ in 1968, he served as the chief school administrator for Oldmans Twp School District for 27 years, retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy F. (nee Hewitt) Madden; his daughter & son-in-law, Kimberly A. & Wayne Volberding of Hertford, NC; his sons & daughters-in-law, Christopher J. & Michelle Madden of Newark, DE and Kyle M. & Elizabeth Madden of Wilmington, DE; and five grandsons, Michael of Hertford, Jacob and Justin of Newark, and Connor and Reece of Wilmington,. Mr. Madden is also survived by his sister & brother-in-law, Nancy & Ron Lapointe of Warwick MD and their family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Tyler James Madden.
The family of Mr. Madden will receive friends from 1 PM to 3 PM Saturday, November 25th in the H.T. LAYTON FUNERAL HOME, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, NJ. Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Madden¹s memory may be made to the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Rd., Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
Arrangements are under the direction of the H.T. LAYTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE in Woodstown.
