There were large attendances at the funerals of Newell's two auto fatalities, which occurred early in the morning of Saturday, August 3 when an auto driven by C. A. Allison, collided with a truck and another auto five miles west of Cherokee, in an early morning fog. Both Mr. Allison and Mrs. Lillian Harris, who was riding to Sioux City with him were injured, receiving fractured skulls and broken bones. Both were rushed to the Cherokee hospital where Mrs. Harris passed away early Wednesday morning and Mr. Allison, Wednesday afternoon, August 7th. Funeral services were held from the Larson Funeral Home and from the Congregational Church on Friday for Mrs. Harris, with Rev. Tresielder in charge. Services for Mr. Allison were held from the Larson Funeral Home and at the schoolhouse where he had been custodian for the past 23 years with Rev. Dr. Karl W. Hiller, former Methodist pastor in charge on Saturday.
Lillian Lovina Schulz, youngest daughter of Herman and Lovina Schulz, was born in Newell, Iowa, June 10, 1882 and departed this life at a Cherokee hospital on August 7, 1946. Her death was the result of an auto accident on Saturday morning, August 3rd. Lillian's girlhood was spent in the Newell vicinity and in her young womanhood she moved to Oregon and there married Harry Harris in March 1912. One son Edwin was born to them. In 1927 she moved back to Newell and has made her home here ever since Mr. Harris died in 1939. Mrs. Harris is survived by her son, Edwin, who has recently returned from army service overseas and made his home with his mother in. Newell. Of her parents family there remain, Amelia and George of Newell, Lewis of Fonda, and Clyde E. of Fort Dodge, lowa . Her parents died in 1924 and 1925 .
