Lydia Daggett was born and raised in California’s Gold Country. She moved to San Francisco in 1901 or 1902. It was in San Francisco that she met George C. Clark. She handled much of his business correspondence and was well acquainted with his business affairs.

Mrs. Clark is noted for her observations of her husband's participation in the creation of the hoax Francis Drake Plate of Brass.
