Mother Mattie Williams was born on December 14, 1929 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to Bob and Edna Odom. Young Mattie attended elementary school and continued to High School in the nearby town of Darlington, SC, where she graduated in 1947.

In 1948, Mattie met and fell in love with a young handsome man named Hazel Williams, who truly became the love of her life. On April 7, 1951, the two became one as they were joined together holy matrimony, thereby setting out on their 69- year journey together as a husband and wife.

They raised two sons, Donald and Edward, both of whom preceded her in death.

Mother Williams joined Mt. Hebron Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in the 19060's, and remained a faithful member until God called her home. Before her health began to faithful member until God called her home. Before her health began to fail, her service to the church included singing in the church choir and being a hard working member of the Pastor's Aid Club. As a member of the Mother's Board, many have blessed by her advice which was always given with love and Godly wisdom. Eventually, she served as President of the Mother's Board.

Mother Mattie Williams leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Deacon Hazel Williams; two granddaughters, Kelly Williams and Syreeta Williams (Brooklyn, New York); two sisters-in-law, Rowena McCall (Florence, South Carolina) and Samella Odom (St. George, South Carolina); one brother-in-law, Rowland Muhammed and wife(Cleveland, Ohio), Dorothy Hayes (Atlanta, Georgia) and Valerie Hayes (Far Rockaway, New York); one nephew, Anthony Hayes (Far Rockaway, New York); one great nephew, Robert Kirven (Cleveland, Ohio) ; one goddaughter, Taniya Moses (Baltimore, Maryland) two godsons, Javier Evans (New York) and Kevin Green (Washington, DC); a host of extended family members, friends, brothers and sisters in Christ.
