Albert Hauck Goering slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God, July 12, 2014. Born July 22, 1926, first son of Albert William and Eva Lydia (nee Hauck) Goering, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Al attended Hughes High School, graduating in 1944. He spent one year at Purdue University in the Navy V-12 program before receiving his appointment to the USMA at West Point. Though he played plebe (freshman) football, apparently his studies took first priority, as he graduated fourth in his class. Al graduated in the class of 1949, then went on to flight school in the Army Air Corps. Assigned to SAC, Al served in the Korean conflict. His military career was short, he chose to resign his commission in 1953. Al returned home to Cincinnati and the family business, Ideal Meat Packing. When the family business was sold, Al, in 1957, purchased a small, struggling spring business in California, Precision Coil Spring Company. Today, under his leadership, this company is now a global leader in the production of highly specialized spring products for the aerospace and nuclear fuels industries. Al's charitable and philanthropic concerns were numerous, including the South Pasadena/San Marino YMCA, South Pasadena Methodist Church, and most especially West Point. Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mimi. He is survived by two brothers, Charles (Caroline) and John; a son, Bert (AnnaBeth); a daughter, Melanie (Lee); grandchildren Natalie and Christopher; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. We will all miss Al's incredibly infectious laugh, generous spirit and love of life!! In addition to services held in California on August 12, services will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 am, St. Peter and St. Paul United Church of Christ, 3001 Queen City Avenue, Cincinnati, OH. Reception immediately following at Western Hills Country Club, 5780 Cleves-Warsaw, Cincinnati, Ohio. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery will be private. An RSVP, if possible, would be greatly appreciated to Sue Hill at 859-485-3553. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Al's name to the West Point Association of Graduates, 698 Mills Road, West Point, NY 10996. Please note "Albert H. Goering '49 Cadet Public Relations Council Endowment" on the gift. If you would like to post a Eulogy please feel free. http://www.west-point.org
