Jane Young passed peacefully at home in Birmingham, Alabama on September 8, 2020.

A life-long Alabamian of 94 years, Jane's energy, love, and light always stole the show.

Born October 1925, she was the third of four sisters: Virginia, Elizabeth, Jane, and Tommy.

At 23, she married her husband of 65 years, James ("Jim") Young. As Jim climbed the ranks at Alabama Power, Jane looked after their children, Paula and Tom. Both kids inherited Jane's exuberance and needed a bit of reigning in, but as they grew older Jane reigned in mischievous minds as a third-grade teacher.

In retirement, Jane pursued new endeavors, most ecstatically the role of Nana to her four grandkids. While contemporaries wound down, Jane ramped up. She played golf with women half her age and spent weekends on Perdido Beach with her children Paula and Tom, in-laws Dan and Amy, and grandkids Nathan, Sarah Jane, Sally, and Emily. Jane's love for others was the source of her energy…and you knew it when you saw her. Most times, she got so excited that she couldn't help but squeeze your hand or pinch your bottom just a little too hard. Not just for family, these physical outpourings were also showered upon her friends, fellow Brookdale residents, and Canterbury United Methodist churchgoers.

We are grateful to have watched this very special lady love and be loved by so many. Darn this pandemic, but our formal celebration of Jane's life and love will be held in one year's time. Due to COVID, there will be a private family graveside held at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
