HOWELL, HERBERT L.- Of Jackson passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife Lola M. Howell and six children. One son Charles (Sharon) Howell of Menasha, WI; daughters Karen (Mel) Winchell, Judy Wellman, Debra (Tom) Daly, Denise Robinson of Jackson, and Donna Chiang of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Herb was a Professor of Industrial Technology at Jackson Community College for over 30 years. He began his college education at the University of Michigan. This was interrupted for a tour of duty with the army during WWII; where he earned the rank of Captain. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University. He selected Michigan State University for his graduate studies, earning his M.A., E.D.S., and PhD degrees. Herb was committed to teaching and loved the educational atmosphere. He also loved fishing, golf, dancing, and woodworking. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 60 year member of The Jackson Lodge No. 17, F.&A.M., the High Twelve Club, and past President of the Shrine Club. At his request cremation has taken place. A gathering for family and friends will be held at Wetherby Funeral Home on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. A Masonic service to be held at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Herb's name may be made to Allegiance Hospice, First Baptist Church, or The JCC Foundation.
