Joe William Thompson, 88, of Americus, formerly of Moultrie, died Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Graveside rites will be held 10:00AM Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Paul. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.

Born April 1, 1932 in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Joe. W. Thompson and Molly Roberts Thompson. Mr. Thompson retired from M&M Mars as a machine operator and was of the Baptist faith. His family remembers how he loved playing the guitar, especially with his family and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, two brothers and three grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Dennis Thompson and wife Kathy, Denise Stempinski and husband Neil all of Albany, Joseph Thompson and wife Charlene of Dawson, Debra Thompson and husband Michael of Roswell, Michael Thompson and wife Ardel of Villa Rica, Ralph Thompson of Newnan; twenty grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
