Donald Glenn Fitzgerald age 89, of Rochester Hills, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Don was born the son of Burgess and Kathryn (Gillette) Fitzgerald on June 8, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Rochester High School, class of 1949, and took up active duty in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Don married Velma Bishop on October 4, 1958, in Rochester, Michigan, and they raised their family in Rochester Hills. Don operated Fitzgerald Construction Company performing carpentry for many years. Don was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy since 1965. He loved God, his family, the church, and his friends. Don was the lead usher for many years and remembered everyone's name. He was a hard-working devoted husband and father. Don is survived by his loving wife Velma; children Glenn (Patty) Fitzgerald, Dee Fitzgerald (daughter-in-law), Velma (Ron) Walraven, Deanna (James) Brammer, and Philip (Lisa) Fitzgerald; grandchildren Douglas (Becca) and Kellyn Fitzgerald, Kathryn Hayworth, Wayne (Rylee) Fitzgerald, Jordan and Matthew (Olivia), Sydney, and Taylor Walraven, Troy (Tiffany Wright) and Haley Brammer, and Kevin, Emily, Maddie, and Joe Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren Charlotte, Layla, Jaimes, and Austin and Samantha Wright; and siblings Tony (Mary) Fitzgerald and Gary (Patty) Harkins. Don was predeceased by his parents and stepdad, Isaac Harkins; son, Wayne Fitzgerald; and brother, Marvin Fitzgerald. Don's family invites all to a visitation on Friday, September 18, 2020, from 4:00-8:00 pm, at First Baptist Church of Troy, located at 2601 John R. Rd., in Troy, Michigan. Mr. Fitzgerald will lie in state from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at noon on Saturday, September 19, at First Baptist Church of Troy. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's honor to First Baptist Church of Troy (Timothy Fund) or First Baptist Church of Washington (Internship Fund). Envelopes will be available at the visitation and service.
