Anna Laurine Sophie Petersen Johnson, daughter of Karen and Jens Petersen, was born in Skuderlose, Sjaelland, Denmark, July 25, 1877. In infancy she was baptized into the Lutheran faith. At the age of ten she came to the United States with her parents and located in Newell. In 1892 she was confirmed in the Nain Lutheran Church with the first class of the congregation and was the last survivor of this class. On February 26, 1896, she was united in marriage to Niels C. Johnson. To this union one son Arthur was born. In 1903 they moved to North Dakota but returned to Iowa in 1907 where they resided on a farm close to Sulphur Springs until 1940 when Mr. Johnson's health failed, and they moved to Newell where Mr. Johnson passed away in 1948. Mrs. Johnson continued living in Newell where her interests centered about the activities of the Nain Lutheran Church to which she remained a steadfast member until the time of her death. She passed away at the Buena Vista County hospital Saturday, August 22, 1959, at the age of 82 years and 28 days. Survivors include her son Arthur of Fort Dodge, three grandsons, Arthur H Johnson of Fort Dodge, Richard Johnson of Champaign, Illinois, Robert of Des Moines, eight grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Oscar Willadsen of Newell, as well as many other relatives and a host of friends. Preceding her in death-were her husband Niels Johnson, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jens Petersen, a sister, Mrs. E. N. Bodholdt, two brothers, H. C. Petersen and A. T. Petersen, and one great grandson, Mark Johnson.
