orn on October 4, 1949 in Honea Path, SC he was the son of the late Charlie and Ursula Blackwell, the devoted husband to Brenda Blackwell and loving owner of his dog Pebbles. John was loved by all, and will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and his love of muscle cars. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 42 ½ years and was a faithful member of 20+ years at Gethsemane Baptist Temple where he was a trustee, usher and attended the Savannah Valley Bible College.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Sonya Capps (Jeff), Dawn Blackwell, April Blackwell (Keith Hembree), Brian Blackwell(Candice), Tony Shaw, Matthew Shaw(Christy), and Darlene Shaw(Mike Gault); grandchildren: Scotty Johnson, DeAnna Blackwell, Triston Capps, Brandi Riccetelli, Brianna Clamp, Emily Crosby, Kerrigan Campbell, Marissa Shaw, Kendall Blackwell, Olivia-Mae Capps, Mason Blackwell, Alec Shaw, Parker Blackwell, Savannah Hembree, Daniel Hembree, Austin Phillips, and Savannah Dean; and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister: Monica Davis.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Gethsemane Baptist Temple and will be officiated by Rev. Sam Duncan. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
