He attended Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, GA where he played college baseball. He worked for 12 years at Scientific-Atlanta in Tucker, GA as a journeyman machinist manager, and then worked in management at Stone Mountain Tool in Conyers, GA for 21 years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Melanie Hughes Strange; maternal grandparents, Frank and Bobbie Rutledge Beaver; paternal grandparents, Elmer and Lucy Rainey Hughes; aunt and uncle, Robert and Avis Murell; uncles, Weyman Brooks, Cliff Reagan, and Wendell Beaver and his wife, Leila; and brother-in-law, Joel Smith. He is survived by his parents, Rev.
