REVEREND THOMAS TASBER, OFM. CONV. Section: CAPITAL REGION, Page: B6 Date: Sunday, August 18, 1996 BINGHAMTON -- The Reverend Thomas Tasber, OFM. Conv., died August 17, 1996 at SS. Cyril and Method Friary, Binghamton, NY, at 51 years of age, following a long illness. Father Thomas was born February 21, 1945 to Joseph and Mary (nee Wesolowski) Tasber in Johnson City, NY. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School in June, 1963 and entered the Novitiate of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, Middleburgh, NY in 1967. On August 13, 1968, he professed his religious vows as a Franciscan Friar. He completed his college studies and received his degree in philosophy at St. Hyacinth Seminary in Granby, MA in 1970. His theological studies were performed at St. Anthony-on-Hudson Seminary, Rensselaer, NY 1970-1974. On May 11, 1974, Father Thomas was ordained to the holy priesthood at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, NY. His pastoral ministry began in May, 1974 at St. Joseph/St. Patrick Parish, Utica, NY. Father Tom served as Associate Pastor in Utica, Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, Nassau, NY, Jacksonville, NC and Endicott, NY. 1978-1979 he assisted the friars at Springvale in Australia. He was chaplain at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica, NY 1985-1988, Pastor in Burgaw, NC 1988-1991 and in Nassau, NY 1991-1994. During the time of his illness, Father Tom courageously continued to minister to others for a short period in 1995, as chaplain to the Sisters of St. Cyril and Method, Danville, PA and as a spiritual director at the St. Francis Interprovincial House of Studies, Philadelphia, PA from 1995 until the time of his death. Father Thomas is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Patricia Tasber of Binghamton, Richard and Maria Tasber of Crystal River, FL; a brother, Michael Tasber of Binghamton; a sister, Marcia Babcock of Endicott; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Daniel Ondreyko of Owego, NY; a sister-in-law, Eileen Tasber of Conklin, NY. Eighteen nieces and nephews; five grandnieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins, and his Franciscan confreres of Immaculate Conception Province. Father Thomas' body will be received at SS. Cyril and Method Church, 148 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 19. The wake will continue until 9 p.m. The Franciscan Friars will conduct the Franciscan Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Cyril and Method Church Tuesday, August 20 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the friars plot of Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Albany, NY. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Laskowski Funeral Home, 367 Prospect St., Binghamton, NY.
