Dempsey Grimes was born and raised in Marquez, Texas. His parents were Ancil and Leta (Phillips) Grimes.

In his early 20's he married the love of his life and moved to Houston, Texas. Traveled around the world as a truck driver, then worked for the Houston Police Department and later retired as the business owner of River Dale Patrol.

He was the 5th of 8 children, 7 boys and 1 girl.
Dempsey was preceded in death by his parents Ancil and Leta Phillips Grimes, his wife and mother of his children, Ruby Neyland Grimes, 3 sons Gary Dempsey Grimes, Kenneth Wayne Grimes and James Ray Grimes, and a grandson, Gary Dempsey Grimes.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Clayton Grimes; step daughter, Cynde Strum; grandchildren Melissa Grimes, Jamie Grimes, Daryl Grimes, Kerri Thornton Grimes, James Thomas "JT", Mackenzie, Ryland and Emerson; great grandchildren, Dalton, Kristin, Drake, Justin, Riley, Kami, Logan, Gary Jr. and Jackson; 6 precious great great granddaughters that he adored, Taelyn Rae, Kimber Rayann, Korah Dempsie, Kenzie Dawn, Kali Nevaeh and Briar Alice.

Dempsey was a hard working man. His favorite thing was spending time with all of his babies and hanging out at The Farm. He was very loved and respected by SO many!

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Triumph Christian Center, 21758 E. Hammond Drive, Porter, Texas 77365. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Old Bowling Cemetery, Marquez, Texas.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Claire Brothers Funeral Home, 7901 Hillcroft Street, Houston, Texas 77081.
