Chad D. McCoy, 32, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, September 7 at his residence. He was born September 17, 1987 to Dennis and Jeana McCoy in Hannibal, Mo.

The family moved to Poplar Bluff when Chad was 4 1/2 years old. He spent his childhood as an amazing go-kart racer. With his parents as his greatest fans and team mates, Chad traveled all over the United States racing. He earned several championships before the age of 15 and advanced to racing stock cars at age 15, competing until he was 21.

Chad’s early years centered around playing sports. He was always away playing baseball, soccer, football and especially loved golf. Chad picked up his clubs for the first time at age 6, growing up on the course at Ozark Ridge in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the golf teams at Poplar Bluff High School and Southwest Baptist University.

Chad was a 2006 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and a 2010 graduate of Southwest Baptist University in Boliver, Mo. Soon after graduation, having earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from SBU, he immediately begin work with Coffman & Company, PC in Springfield, Mo. In 2015, Chad moved back to his hometown of Poplar Bluff, continuing to work with Coffman & Company, PC’s local firm. He relocated to the Kansas City, Mo. area in 2018 to pursue a career with the investment management firm, Creative Planning.

Chad is survived by his parents; two brothers, Allen (Caroline) McCoy and Garrett (Tiffany) McCoy; a sister, Rachel (Charley Smith) McCoy; Grandma McCoy; several cousins; aunts; uncles; three nieces and one nephew. He is also survived by a special friend, Blake Rhoades and a very special family who was a huge part of his life, the Godwin family, Buddy and Bobby. Chad is also survived by his former spouse, Shannon Roher.

He was preceded in death by his Grandpa and Grandma Lieurance and Grandpa McCoy.

Chad was always smiling, happy and loved by so many.

A public visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Willow Ridge Funeral Services, 1100 Iron Bridge Road in Poplar Bluff with the funeral following at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
