Mrs. Mixter's Death.
Greatly Beloved by All Who Knew Her, She Will be Sadly Missed.
The death of Mrs. George Mixter at her home on Twenty-third street yesterday afternoon at 3:30 removes one of Rock Island's best known and beloved women. She has resided here since 1849, and many were the deeds of goodness one loved, which characterized her life.
Her maiden name was Susan Elizabeth Gilbert, and she was born at Buffalo, N.Y., Aug. 22, 1823, and was married to Mr. Mixter at Moline, Jan. 1, 1846. The couple first moved to Dixon, but three years later came back to Rock Island, and after living in the west part of town for a year, Mr. Mixter, in company with his brother-in-law, Joseph Knox, built the Bailey Davenport homestead, where they lived for a short time, and in 1851 Mr. Mixter built the homestead at the head of Twenty-third street, which they left last October to move into their new home near it.
Mrs. Mixter has been an invalid for a number of years, but had suffered seriously from spinal trouble since falling from a buggy in Davenport three years ago. She had been confined to her bed since Christmas day.
Mrs. Mixter leaves with her husband four children, William G., of New Haven, Conn.; Frank, Charles K. and Miss Carrie L. in Rock Island.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, the exact time not having been determined upon yet.
