Max Leroy Pierce, Sr., 71, son of Russell & Ruby (Morlan) Pierce, was born March 17, 1949 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

Max was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1971, he started installing automatic sprinkler systems throughout the United States. In 1985, he married Abby Mozena. After 30 years of installing the sprinkler systems, Max decided to retire from this job. He then went to work for Wonder Bread in Colorado for about five years and then on to Safeway for four years. In 2012, Max and Abby moved to Iowa. Abby wanted to live a nice relaxing life away from the city life and sirens.

Max enjoyed traveling in his 1966 Volkswagen Bug, fishing, woodworking, playing guitar, and doing handyman work. He was even thinking of doing some gold prospecting but his health wouldn’t let him.

Max is survived by his son, Max Pierce II, and sister, Norma. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Abby, on June 21, 2020, siblings, Elaine Pierce, Michael Pierce, Patricia Pierce, Jimmy Pierce, and Linda Pierce.
