Jimmy Lee "Jim" Sutton, 75 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at his home in Holdrege. Jim was born on October 2, 1944, in Holdrege, the youngest of four children to Harvey Neil and Mildred Elizabeth (Johnson) Sutton. Jim grew up in Holdrege, and received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1963.

Following graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 17, 1963 and served his country during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge on February 21, 1967, he returned home to Nebraska, and attended Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree. It was during this same year; he was united in marriage to Deborah J. Talbot.

After graduation from college, Jim served as a City Manager in both North Dakota and Nebraska. Later, he served in the Active Reserves and was recalled into the Air Force where he served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. After he was discharged from his second tour of duty, he moved to Colorado, where he worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation until his retirement.

After retirement, Jim moved back to his hometown of Holdrege in 2013, where he resided until his passing. Jim spent countless hours with his best friend, Ted Dossett. He took an active role helping at the Nebraska Prairie Museum when needed, and whenever the Executive Director, Dan Christensen would call. He also enjoyed his time spent with his nieces and nephews; especially at holidays and Saturdays watching the Big Red.

Jim was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Holdrege and the El Jebel Shrine Temple in Denver, Colorado.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Sutton; and his sister, Norma Waller and her husband, John “Jack” Waller.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his brother, Donald Sutton and his wife, Susan of Fullerton, California; his sister-in-law, Shirley Urbom and her husband, Ron of Holdrege; four nephews: Mike Waller and his wife, Kerry of Holdrege; Mark Waller and his wife, Kim of Lincoln, Nebraska; Blake Sutton and his wife, Jill of Holdrege; Steven Sutton and his wife, Angie of Sherwood, Oregon; three nieces: Shelley Trompke and her husband, Gary of Axtell, Nebraska; Kathy Snyder and her husband, Mark of Orange, California; and Karyn Mauer and her husband, Tony of Yorba Linda, California; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
