Millard Charles Williams Sr., 85, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, passed away peacefully at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until funeral time at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 1220 Aycock Street in Houma. Burial will follow in St. Francis No. 2 Cemetery.

On Nov. 4, 1932, a child was born to Otis and Camille Williams, named Millard Charles Williams in Houma, La. This child was unique in all that he grew up to do and be. Millard accepted Christ at an early age being baptized Methodist but later converting to Catholic later in life. In the 1940s during the construction of St. Lucy Church, Millard met Fr. John McShane.

They became close and remained as such throughout his life working very well together.

Millard graduated from St. Lucy High School in 1952. He was very active in football, basketball and track, along with his various activities. Fishing was his biggest hobby in which many relatives and friends would accompany him as he was an avid fisherman.

He was later drafted into the military by the United State Army, where he served in the Korean War Conflict. After being honorably discharged from the military, Millard and his sweetheart Thelma Sims were married on Sept. 22, 1956. From this union two children were born; one daughter, Rhonda Williams, and one son, Millard Charles Williams Jr.

Millard and Thelma made their home in New Orleans. Millard attended Dillard University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, in Mathematics. After graduating from Dillard they moved back to Houma and made Houma their permanent residence.

Millard became a licensed mechanic while also being employed by People Insurance Company. He later became employed as a Letter Carrier for the U S Postal Service. He worked there until he retired after 33 years of dedicated service. He was always sharing and helping other with his contagious smile. He will be exceedingly missed by many family members and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Millard Williams Jr.; daughter, Rhonda Williams; granddaughter, Sadria Howard; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Williams of Los Angeles, Calif; and Emmia Daigs of Houma; brother-in law, William Jasper of Houma; caregiver/family friend, LaToya Lee; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Sims Williams; parents, Otis and Camille Lagarde Williams; brothers, Arthur Sr., Nolan and Elward Williams; sister; Irma W. Griffin and Druzella W. Shropshire; five nephews; four brothers-in law; and two sisters-in-law.
