Dana Philip Austin, age 39, of Sugar Grove passed away Friday, September 9, 1994, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was born on June 21, 1955, in Aurora, the son of Wilmer Lee and Marian (Andersen) Austin.

He was united in marriage to Patti Barr on August 9, 1975, at St. Gall’s Catholic Church in Elburn.

Mr. Austin was the owner and operator of Austin’s Violin Shop in Sugar Grove. He was a 1973 graduate of the Hinckley-Big Rock High School and graduated from the Kenneth Warren School of Violin Making, located in Chicago, in 1980.

He was first and foremost a loving father to his seven children as well as a caring and helpful husband to his wife Patti.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed the time spent farming in the area with his father-in-law. He was a real people person, always ready with a helping hand for his many friends, and an eager ear ready to listen to their thoughts.

Mr. Austin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Rock where he was both a Deacon and Trustee of the church.

Survivors include his wife Patti of Sugar Grove; seven children, Honna (14), Holly (12), Danae (9), Joel (7), Philip (6), Garrett (4), and Trevor (19 months); two brothers, Don (Cindy) Austin of Hinckley, Dan (Debbie) Austin of Streator; a sister, Alynn (Gerald) Sorensen of Waxahachie, TX; a sister-in-law, Diane Austin, of Streator; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Larry.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Big Rock, the Reverend Doctor Eugene Frost officiating. Musicians for the service were Huntley Brown, Don Shire, Randy York and Kelly Barr. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Hinckley.

Pallbearers were Brian Meyers, Mike Jump, Kim Thorsen, John Whildin, Brandon Whildin, Brad Austin, Dean Seppelfrick and Mike Blair.

Memorials may be made in his memory to his family.
