Edward “Eddie” Wayne Black, 68, of Emhouse, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020, in a Corsicana hospital.

Memorial graveside services will be at 6:00 p.m. (sunset) Saturday, September 12 at Younger Cemetery in Navarro County.

Eddie was born June 15, 1952, in Tulia, Texas to Lawrence “Buddy” Edward Black, Jr. and Maye (Kirby) Black, the oldest of five children. He attended school in Tulia, where he graduated, and just a year later joined the Army. Eddie served three years in the military with his last assignment being a personal driver for a Colonel at Fort Hood.

Eddie married Anita Kay Brown on November 4, 1972, in Corpus Christi while still in the service, and they began their legacy of love. After being released from active duty, the couple began a 30-year career as owner/operators in the trucking business that would take them to various locales around the country including Hereford, Texas, Garden City, Kansas, and Waco, Texas, where they spent 12 years with RTI.

After moving to Navarro County, Eddie went to work for Jack Herod Trucking in Barry where he was the operations manager for 20 years before retiring last year. Years of driving and working on trucks allowed Eddie to become a wizard in troubleshooting truck problems. He could hear an engine drive by and tell you what was wrong!

He was a master storyteller, and his family thought they knew most of his stories, but now and then he would surprise them with a new one. They’d still happily sit down to hear them all again. It was a great day when something happened that he could turn into a new tale...only minor stretching of the truth was evident!

He loved motorcycles, attending cycle rallies over the years as well as Veterans Affairs motorcycle events and he participated in numerous Toy Runs during the Holiday seasons. Eddie loved to go plinking with his grandsons where he’d show off his marksmanship and he even attempted to learn to fly RC airplanes until he decided he couldn’t afford the crashes anymore!

But most of all, Eddie loved his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored. He also often stated that he and his wife, Anita were joined at the hip and were truly the “Love of Each Other’s Lives”.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Dean Black.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Anita Black of Emhouse; daughter, Lisa Lamb, and husband, Jason of Purdon; son, Casey Black, and wife, Chelesy of North Zulch; three siblings, Dale Black of Corsicana, Kathy Porter, and husband, Randy of Corsicana and Kristi Guerra and husband, Danny of Purdon; grandchildren, Edward Lane Rash and wife, Taylor of Clyde, Nate Rash and wife, Taylor of Corsicana, Case Horton of Corsicana, Mason Black of Huntsville, Cash and Cole Lamb of Purdon, Anna Lisa Black, Karlee Williams, and Lena Starr of North Zulch; great-grandson, Stetson Rash of Corsicana; in-laws, Dale and Katie Brown of Hubbard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandy German of Hubbard, Jim and Debra Brown of Houston and Jerry Brown of Hubbard; best friend, Tom Kunkel of Red Oak and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members and countless friends.

He was truly loved and is greatly missed.
