She met a tragic death in early June of 1660, a victim of Huron renegades in quest of plunder on the Beaupre coast. Masquerading as Iroquois, they carried off the young wife, her daughter Louise and three other children in her care. The thieves were overtaken and surprised by the French and some Algonquins at Pointe-Levis. Marie and one of her charges were killed in the skirmish which followed. Little Louise escaped the massacre and was entrusted to the care of her grandfather Pierre Picard. As for Jean Picard, he remarried twice and had several children from each of his last two wives.
