GOSHEN, IN. -- Lois K. Nelson, 87 of Goshen, formerly of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020 at Courtyard Healthcare Center, Goshen.

She was born December 30, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clarence R. and Ella C. (Matthes) Olson. Lois married Leonard M. Nelson on October 24, 1953 in San Diego, California, after a five week courtship which grew into 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Linda Steadman of Park City, Utah, Lee Nelson of Elkhart, Lori (Rick) Holtan of Eagan, Minnesota, Luanne (Steve) Peterson of Elkhart, Leslie (Kevin) Cain of McKinney, Texas and Laraine Kerr of Hurst, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a brother, Walter G. Olson of Maple Lake, Minnesota. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, a brother, Floyd B. Olson, a sister, Karen Brouwer and a granddaughter, Rachel Sommers.

Lois was a cashier for Mid-City Supply Co. for 9 years after retiring from Midwest Commerce Bank where she was a branch manager and financial officer for 11 years. She was a former member of Faith United Methodist Church and was an ambassador for 10 years for the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce. She also volunteered for years punching forms to make braille books for the visually impaired.

Lois made every event a celebration and her biggest joy was having wonderful get-togethers surrounded by all her family.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 am to 12 pm Friday, September 11, 2020 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd. Elkhart, Indiana, where her funeral service will be held at 12 pm Friday. Reverend John Hogsett will officiate, and she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Leonard following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Lois asked for memorial donations to be given to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Riley Children’s Hospital.
