He was born Jan. 2, 1933, to Fred Curtis and Violet Showers. Roy spent his early years in Wallowa with his grandparents and uncles. In 1949 he met his wife to be, Jessie L Collins. They were married Jan. 8, 1951.
Three boys were born to Roy and Jessie through this marriage: Donald Eugene (deceased), Roy Leon and Roger David; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Roy worked for various logging companies in Wallowa County, and during that time he received a permanent injury. He then entered Treasure Valley Community College and later Oregon State University where he finished with a bachelor’s degree in industrial education.
He taught 16.5 years at the Oregon State Prison in Salem. After more surgeries, he had to retire.
Roy and Jessie moved back to the city of Wallowa that he loved.
