Barry Dean Johnson, 70, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior, on Friday August 28, 2020. He was born July 3,1950, in Ft. Worth, TX to Billy and Nellivee Johnson. He grew up in Arlington, TX attended Arlington public schools, First Baptist Church of Arlington, and most recently was a member of Hampton Road Baptist Church in DeSoto, TX. Barry was a highly skilled and respected Respiratory Therapist CRT, RCP, for 50 years. His respiratory therapy talents led him to practice at all levels of care from neonatal intensive care units to adult intensive care. He loved his profession. His passion for respiratory care awareness led him to volunteer with the American Cancer Society to lobby before the Texas Legislature in Austin, TX and the US Congress in Washington, DC, to create regulations and laws to establish no smoking in public places. In 1979, Barry with the support of his family, established Texas Medical, Inc., a durable medical equipment company, that specialized in respiratory homecare. As a new and growing industry, Barry recognized an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of an innovative type of care that allowed patients to receive respiratory care in the comfort of their own homes. He enjoyed working with homecare clients by instructing them on how to effectively manage their treatments through use of equipment in the home. Through the years, this caring attitude has been extended to friends and family members. Having a large extended family, Barry would be an advocate for the healthcare of relatives and friends that otherwise would have no one to oversee their care. Being deeply involved in the medical community for so many years gave him a boundless level of knowledge and clinical experience. This was obvious in the compassion he showed for the patients he cared for, as well as family and friends. Barry developed a love of music at a young age. He could hear a song once and sit down at the piano and play it like he had known it for years. His interest in music would expand to the guitar and drums. He shared the love of music with his sons and a favorite pastime was having personal jam sessions with them. Barry would pursue various interests throughout his life. Aside from being a clinician, he obtained his Private Pilot’s License, he was a Microsoft Certified Computer Engineer and College Computer Science Instructor. He was also a member of the Dallas Sherriff’s Posse for many years.
Barry is survived by his wife, Dawn; his sons Christopher Johnson of Arlington, TX, John Johnson of Knoxville, TN, William Johnson of Plano, TX and Matthew Johnson of Waxahachie, TX; grandsons Alex Johnson and Andrew Johnson; sister, Dena Moran (Robert) and brother Tommy Johnson (Karen); aunt, Marie Wicklander; uncle, Don Brock (Betty). Also surviving him are numerous Johnson cousins. Barry was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Nellivee Johnson.
