ANDERSON--Joanie Adele (Lowry) Petry died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Aug. 20, 2020. She was born April 5, 1937, to Lester T. and Adeline O. Lowry in Anderson. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1955 and Hanover College in 1959, with a degree in elementary education. She married her husband, Verne A. Petry, in 1959. They were married 58 years.
At Anderson High School she was a member of Student Council, prom queen, and a cheerleader. She attended Hanover on an academic scholarship. At Hanover she was salutatorian of her class, a member of Phi Mu Sorority, a cheerleader, and Cherry Blossom Queen.
She was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She loved reading, and participated in or led several women's Bible study groups over the years. She also loved spending time with her family on their farm southeast of Pendleton, or at the family lake cottage on Lake Syracuse in northern Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Stephen P. Lowry.
She is survived by a son, Kurt S. Petry (Beth) of Ellettsville, IN; daughter, Jill L. Parent of New Richmond, Wis.; son, Jeff S. Petry (Valerie) of Pendleton; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
