Record Herald, The (Waynesboro, PA) - Tuesday, July 19, 2016
Beloved mother and friend, Phyllis Louise (Blubaugh) Croson passed peacefully July 5, 2016, at Suncoast Hospice in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born March 6, 1929, in Waynesboro, PA, to the late Merle I. Blubaugh and the late Helen L. Wagner.

Phyllis grew up in Waynesboro, was a 1946 graduate of Waynesboro High School and attended The Church of the Brethren. She also attended Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville, MD, for many years while living in Potomac, MD. She had an extensive career as a medical secretary and medical transcriptionist and worked at many hospitals, taking special pride in her work for Dr. James P. Murphy, a neurosurgeon in Bethesda, MD. Towards the end of her career she worked as a secretary at the Ft. Ritchie Army Installation in Cascade, MD.

Family and friends were Phyllis's love and joy and she loved nothing more than rocking her grandbabies. All grown now, her grandchildren called her "Nana" or "NanNan" and recall her great backrubs, her love of butterflies, horses, cats and dogs, and her funny sayings such as "By Golly!" and "Shoot the Poodle!" and "Lord Love a Duck!"

Phyllis had the voice of an angel and was always singing, either at home or with church choirs. She loved hosting large family get-togethers for the holidays and was a wonderful cook and elegant hostess. She kept an immaculate house and loved to decorate. She was passionate about art and gardening, spending many hours tending to her own garden and the gardens at Renfrew Museum & Park in Waynesboro. Her love of horses led her to buy her own horse, Cinderella, and to volunteer at the Circle of Hope Therapeutic Riding facility in Barnesville, MD.

She is survived by her children: Jean Trost of Gaithersburg, MD; step-daughter Linda Coleman of Forest Hill, MD; Mark (Sue) Croson of St. Petersburg, FL; Brenda (Bob) Rachner of Sterling, VA; Craig (Janet) Croson of Port Charlotte, FL; Pamela O'Brien of St. Petersburg, FL; and Barb Matthews of Enola, PA; and her grandchildren: Gordon, Angela, Yvette, Cheryl, Kelli, Kimberly, Paul, Jennifer, Ariel, Curtis, Kevin, Bailey, Tiffany and Megan; and many great-grandchildren. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Doris Ricker, step-sister LuAnn Hardman, nephew Pete (Christina) Ricker, and nieces Laurie (Rick) Pfisterer and Denise Ricker. She is also survived by her ex-husband Curtis (MaryAnn) Croson and special friends, Jeanette and Gerry Strachan.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her Uncle Paul J. Hollinger and Aunt Esther Hollinger, who helped raise her; step-father Carl L. Wagner, step-mother Arlene Stoops Blubaugh, and ex-husband Thomas Rowe.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice (www.suncoasthospice.org) for their great care in helping her pass peacefully. Services will be held at a later date.
