Patty Diane Quaas was born on February 27, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois the last of four girls to Glen and Hazel (Martin) Quaas. In 1955 she married Darrell Herrin and their family quickly started to grow with four sons. Darrell passed away in 1980. In 1984 she married John Henry Anderson. He also preceded her in death in 2001.

Patty was a gifted, self- taught artist starting with pencil drawings of her young children to mastering the art of cake decorating to finally sculptures of many local children. Her favorites being Big John Anderson and Happy Joe Whitty. She was also renowned for her cake decorating abilities and no matter where she went locally someone would recognize her as "Patty Cakes", a nick name she carried with her forever. Patty also received formal sculpturing education in Loveland, Colorado for which she was immensely proud. During this time, she and the "love of her life" John Anderson moved to an old farm near Grand Mound, IA where they remodeled the corn crib overlooking a pond for her art studio. This was her "piece of heaven" and her inspiration. After the death of John, she met her special friend Dan Shima with whom they shared the love of dance and travel.

Among those left to cherish Patty's memory are - her children and their spouses: Dan and Victoria Herrin, Dean and Linda Herrin, Shawn and Charlene Herrin, and Tim Herrin; step children: Chris and Lynn Anderson, and Vanessa Anderson; fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her siblings: Natalie Upp and Joanne Ogden.

In addition to the loves of her life, Darrell and John, Patty was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and Billie Stone. May they rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
